Parkinson Wellness Recovery (PWR!) is Brain-Body Training!
The Instructor: Drew Surinsky is an exercise physiologist and a PWR! certified instructor. He is also certified by the other two major Parkinson exercise organizations – Rock Steady Boxing, and Delay the Disease.
The program: Dynamic, fun, evidence-based, and Parkinson-specific. It is based on PWR! Moves developed by Dr. Becky Farley, a leading researcher and instructor in Parkinson exercise. PWR! moves are building blocks of fundamental motions, performed with large amplitude, high effort and attention to technique, designed to target symptoms of Parkinson Disease that interfere with everyday activities. The program is also inspired by boxing training. As a certified Rock Steady Boxing Coach, Drew leads participants through a high-effort regimen that addresses endurance conditioning, agility, stability and balance.
Classes are divided into two groups based on the participant's abilities, fitness, and Parkinson symptoms. New participants should contact Drew to schedule an assessment for this purpose. All classes take place at Park Center of Glenview Park District.
